Mayfield physicians earn traditional place among region's elite
CINCINNATI – For Dr. Marc Orlando, an interventional pain physician at Mayfield Brain & Spine, innovation is the lifeblood of the nationally known medical practice that has served generations of patients over nearly nine decades.
Dr. Orlando is featured in the January 2026 Top Doctors edition of Cincinnati Magazine, outlining a clinical trial of the potential benefits of spinal cord stimulation for patients with symptoms of Restless Legs Syndrome. Spinal cord stimulation involves a sensor placed in close contact with the spinal cord, blocking pain signals to the brain.
"The brain and the spinal cord are what makes us who we are as individuals, athletes and humans," Dr. Orlando said. "Simply put, if something is off with the spinal cord, it affects everything."
Patient care is at the forefront at Mayfield Brain & Spine, with neurosurgeons, spine surgeons and pain physicians at the independent neurosurgery practice continuing to be recognized among the region's best.
In rankings from local publications, Mayfield physicians earned recognition among the most highly regarded clinicians in surveys of other doctors and patients. They served more than 36,600 patients in 2025, an all-time high and up nearly 12% from the previous year.
"When patients need care for a serious condition in their spine, brain or the central nervous system, they know where to look: the surgeons and providers of Mayfield," said Mark Vorherr, chief executive officer. "That unmatched expertise, built on a foundation of innovation in clinical care and research, has benefited generations of patients in Greater Cincinnati and around the country."
Mayfield neurosurgeons diagnose and treat brain and spine disorders including brain tumors, brain aneurysms, stroke, Chiari malformation, scoliosis and spinal deformity. Their expertise ranges from minimally invasive procedures to open cranial and spinal surgeries, and they operate in the region's leading hospitals to bring care closer to patients.
Mayfield's interventional pain physicians and physical medicine & rehabilitation specialists help patients with acute or chronic back and neck pain with minimally invasive interventions such as steroid injections and spinal cord stimulation trials.
