Dr. Richard Curry brings neuro-oncology expertise to Mayfield Brain & Spine
CINCINNATI – Board-certified neuro-oncologist Dr. Richard Curry has joined Mayfield Brain & Spine, where he will bring specialized brain cancer care to patients of the nationally recognized independent neurosurgery practice.
Dr. Curry is the only board-certified neuro-oncologist in Greater Cincinnati. He will work closely with Mayfield's team of brain tumor specialists to offer seamless, comprehensive care for patients with brain cancers and other complex disorders. He also will help expand Mayfield's brain tumor research, spurring more clinical trials to provide access to leading-edge therapy and treatment.
He will serve patients in Mayfield's Norwood and Crestview Hills patient offices. He also will work with inpatient teams at The Christ Hospital, The Jewish Hospital-Mercy Health, Good Samaritan Hospital, Bethesda North Hospital and St. Elizabeth Healthcare to create a smooth transition to neuro-oncology care.
"Dr. Curry's demonstrated expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of malignant tumors will help Mayfield provide the full continuum of care in the neurologic complications of cancer," said neurosurgeon Dr. Vincent DiNapoli, chairman of Mayfield's Board of Directors and a brain tumor specialist. "We are excited to welcome Dr. Curry to Mayfield."
The addition of Dr. Curry continues development of The Brain Tumor Institute at Mayfield, launched in 2024 by the Mayfield Education & Research Foundation to enhance access to clinical trials for patients with brain tumors and recruit specialists who can improve care for patients at multiple hospital systems. The vision is to collaborate with leading health systems to make Greater Cincinnati a national destination for leading-edge brain tumor care.
Dr. Curry will join the Mayfield brain tumor team that includes experts in all aspects of brain tumor treatment and research. The neurosurgeons are joined by nurse practitioner Stephanie Green. Collaborating directly with multiple leading health systems in Greater Cincinnati, they offer expertise in brain tumor surgery, radiosurgery and chemotherapy.
"I have known and admired the neurosurgeons of Mayfield since early in my medical training," Dr. Curry said. "This feels like the perfect time to join this exceptional group to build a unified Brain Tumor Institute that will provide our patients with continuous care, draw patients from around the country and spur research activity."
Dr. Curry brings experience from many perspectives: a large health system, a provider of clinical trials and a pharmaceutical company dedicated to developing cancer therapies. Most recently, he served as senior medical director at CTI Clinical Trial & Consulting Services and as a medical affairs consultant at Bexion Pharmaceuticals. Previously, he worked directly with Mayfield physicians while serving as director of neurology at TriHealth and as an assistant professor at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. A graduate of Miami University and the University of Toledo College of Medicine, he completed his residency in Neurology at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and a fellowship in Neurology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York.
