Dr. Soliman Oushy joins Mayfield Brain & Spine

CINCINNATI – Soliman Oushy, MD, a fellowship-trained neurosurgeon specializing in neurovascular care, has joined Mayfield Brain & Spine as part of the team treating strokes, brain aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations and other blood vessel disorders of the brain.

Dr. Oushy will see patients at Mayfield's Norwood office and perform procedures at Good Samaritan Hospital, Bethesda North Hospital, The Jewish Hospital-Mercy Health, St. Elizabeth Hospital-Edgewood, The Christ Hospital and the Mayfield Spine Surgery Center.

"Patients across Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky will benefit from Dr. Oushy's demonstrated expertise in both open and endovascular treatment of strokes and other neurovascular disorders," said Dr. Vincent DiNapoli, a neurosurgeon and chairman of Mayfield's Board of Directors. "He adds to Mayfield's leadership in building a network of stroke centers at multiple hospital locations across the region. We are excited that Dr. Oushy has joined our independent practice."

Dr. Oushy earned an undergraduate degree from New Mexico State University and his medical degree at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. He completed a residency in neurosurgery at the Mayo Clinic, then a fellowship in neuroendovascular surgery. He has since completed two additional fellowships, in pediatric cerebrovascular surgery at Boston Children's Hospital, and in cerebrovascular surgery at Jackson Memorial Hospital at the University of Miami. At Mayfield, he also will be able to perform minimally invasive spine surgery and procedures for brain tumors, trigeminal neuralgia and other neurologic disorders.

"I have long been aware of Mayfield's reputation for surgical skill and patient-centered care, and I am proud to join that tradition here in Cincinnati," Dr. Oushy said.

Dr. Oushy's academic interests include neurovascular microsurgical techniques, endovascular device development, pediatric cerebrovascular disease and artificial intelligence in medicine.

Collaborating with the region's leading health systems, Mayfield continues to expand and support a network of stroke centers with the capability to perform procedures called thrombectomies, where a surgeon removes a blockage from an artery leading to the brain. The latest example came early in 2025, when Mayfield finalized an agreement with The Christ Hospital to develop an interventional stroke program. The new collaboration will ultimately result in Mayfield neurosurgeons performing endovascular thrombectomies for stroke patients at the health system's flagship Mount Auburn location.

Dr. Oushy said he was drawn to neurovascular surgery during his residency because of a surgeon's ability to quickly transform the life of a patient.

"It's one of the few things in neurosurgery that is absolutely curative," Dr. Oushy said. "To me, there's little that we do in medicine that has as profound an effect as this work."
