Cincinnati joins Conquer Chiari 'Walk Across America'

Cincinnati will take part in the Conquer Chiari Walk Across America Saturday, Sept. 20, at Fernbank Park, Thornton Ave., 45233.

Chiari malformation is a serious neurological disorder that affects 300,000 people in the United States. It occurs when the lower part of the brain, called the cerebellum, herniates through the skull and down into the spinal canal, compressing the brainstem and blocking the normal flow of cerebrospinal fluid.

The Conquer Chiari Walk Across America is a series of local awareness and fundraising walks, all held on Sept. 20. Proceeds fund Chiari research, education and awareness programs.

Registration at the Cincinnati walk begins at 8:30 a.m., and the walk begins at 10. The Chiari walk’s route is across a 1.2-mile paved surface and is wheelchair-accessible. Participants can choose the full walk or take a shorter loop.
