19 Mayfield Physicians Named to National, Regional 'Best Doctors' Lists

CINCINNATI–The Mayfield Clinic proudly reports that 19 of its specialists have been named to the latest regional and national lists of leading physicians.

Cincinnati Magazine, in its January 2012 edition, published its new listing of Top Doctors who practice in the eight counties that make up the Greater Cincinnati region (Hamilton, Warren, Butler, and Clermont in Ohio; Boone, Campbell, and Kenton in Kentucky; and Dearborn in Indiana). The list includes 667 physicians in 43 specialties.

In December Cincy magazine re-published the 2011-2012 list of area physicians named by Best Doctors in America®, a national database www.bestdoctors.com that includes more than 40,000 physicians in more than 40 specialties.

Mark Farrington, CEO of the Mayfield Clinic, commended the physicians included in one or both of the prestigious listings. He also noted that all of Mayfield's specialists are superbly trained and highly skilled. “Mayfield, which is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year, is one of the oldest and most respected neurosurgical practices in America,” Mr. Farrington said. “The neurosurgeons who are recruited to join Mayfield are leaders in their field. Further, their commitment to excellence has enabled Mayfield to recruit star physicians in related sub-specialties.”

Five Mayfield doctors are included in the national listing of Best Doctors in America®: neurosurgeons Charles Kuntz, IV, MD, George Mandybur, MD, Ronald Warnick, MD, and Mario Zuccarello, MD, and interventional radiologist Todd Abruzzo, MD.

In its Best Doctors issue, Cincinnati Magazine featured Philip Theodosopoulos, MD, a Mayfield Clinic neurosurgeon, and Lee Zimmer, MD, PhD, an otolaryngologist with UC Health, for their ground-breaking efforts in skull base surgery.

Cincinnati Magazine developed its Top Doctors list by sending surveys to more than 5,000 area physicians with current medical licenses and asking them whom they would turn to if they, a family member, or friend needed medical care. Doctors who received at least five votes from their peers were included on the list.

The Best Doctors® database of physicians is based on a biennial peer-review drawn from surveys of tens of thousands of leading specialists who were asked whom they would send a loved one to for treatment in their specialty.

Earlier in 2011, four Mayfield Clinic physicians were named to the first U.S. News Top Doctors directory, produced by U.S. News & World Report. Those physicians were Drs. Abruzzo, Kuntz, Warnick and Zuccarello.
