Mayfield Clinic, The Christ Hospital, and United Surgical Partners International form Spine Surgery Center Partnership
CINCINNATI--The Mayfield Clinic, The Christ Hospital and United Surgical Partners International (USPI) announce they have entered into a partnership to expand services and capacity at The Mayfield Clinic Spine Surgery Center in Norwood. Effective June 14, the center will be known as The Christ Hospital Spine Surgery Center.
Michael Gilligan, FACHE, President and CEO of the Mayfield Clinic, stated “Our Spine Surgery Center has performed well on all measures—specifically in the areas of patient care, quality, patient satisfaction, efficiency, and productivity. It has exceeded its budgeted volume and revenue in each full year of operation. The Center was designed for expansion, and we are now at a point where we can begin that expansion process.”
According to William D. Tobler, MD, Chairman of the Spine Surgery Center Board of Managers, such a possibility had been planned since the Center’s inception. “We had planned to have a hospital partner once the Center was a proven success. The Christ Hospital is an ideal partner because of its commitment to spine care and because it is already the leading provider of spine care in the region.” He added, “We have been pleased with our success so far, but this will enable the Center to expand to its full capacity and better serve the needs of the region.” Dr. Tobler is also a medical staff member with The Spine Institute at The Christ Hospital and a neurosurgeon with Mayfield.
Since opening in 2007, more than 10,000 procedures have been performed at the Mayfield Clinic Spine Surgery Center. Throughout that time, physicians working at the center have been predominantly Mayfield neurosurgeons and affiliated pain management specialists. The new partners and Mayfield physicians are excited about the opportunity to attract additional physicians from the community specializing in compatible surgical disciplines. Currently, two operating rooms and one procedure suite are used at the Center, with room for expansion to include an additional OR and a second procedure suite.
According to Susan Croushore, President and CEO of The Christ Hospital, “We are very pleased to be part of this venture. It fits well with our goal of providing the quality and access that our community has come to expect from The Christ Hospital.” She added, “Through this partnership, we extend the continuum of care and the comprehensive patient experience. We are collaborating with leading physicians to provide patients with a full range of highly effective treatments complementary to our existing surgical services.”
Mr. Gilligan added, “We like USPI’s approach to managing its centers and their track record for collaboration and development. We have created a unique culture at our surgery center, and USPI’s management philosophies and treatment protocols will only enhance it.”
